![]() ![]() Compared to repro European swords, there is much less variation in build quality and handling as you go up or down the price range. Much less choice when it comes to wakizashi as compared with katana. They do have good swords for cutting, but there heavy and about $500 to start. ![]() Hanwei is great for looks, but leaves something to be desired when it comes to cutting performance. Last Legend has great blades, but OK fittings less you spend a little more. Its a tough call to make on which I would choose. Acid etching (no dipping that I know of) only brings out the hamon without expensive polishing, but the sword will rust no matter what if its not cleaned or oiled. Which is used for cutting wet mats? All are geared to "cut mats" and some will be better than others. I heard that the acid dip that some companys use to bring out the hammon can cause a tendency to rust, and break-down is difficult for cleaning according to the company that makes it. If your big on one of the companys, or there is a production process thats different. I guess over all I'd like if someone, or anyone who feels like voting, between the three swords I mentioned could tell me why if anything you'd pick one over the others. I think it was also the sudden temperature change, It was pretty cold. It went Narsil on me when I was attempting two 4x8's, light pine. I'd ending dying trying to sell my kindeys to cover the cost to fly to Japan. Yes I looked at Kris, but I have to tell you that if I kept looking at katanas I'd never get one. Not that I'm saying its a bad sword or anything, I got a lot of good use out of it, and I was only mentioning it because anyone familiar with one knows how large a sword it is.Īnd I was also not folowing the guidelines of happy sword ownership, that was my own fault.īut still wanting to know the limits of a period piece is always tempting. Just for the curiosity, what were you cutting with the Ravenna that shattered it? I have done a lot of cutting with a Windlass Ulrich, which is similar and it has held up just fine, even though some of the things I have cut are definitely no no's for good sword usage.Īlso, have you looked at Kris Cutlery? Maybe not as authentic looking, but these days they do really sturdy stuff. If you wouldn't want to live without your katana, I want to hear from you. Yes, I could just get a bugei, but I aint got that much, but I am also open to suggestion. I will not buy a acid eched blade if possible. ![]() Has anybody ever got the Cyro-Treatment? Is it worth the money? Does taking the internal stresses out of forged steel improve the blade or kill the romance? I think it was the MarkIV I was looking at, looks very nice, optional 30" blade at no additonal, nice furniture, nice thick tang. I've owned and shattered a Museum Replicas Ravanna doing test cuts, I need the best quality for the money. Mainly CS emphasizes that these are Cutting Blades-" through a 7 inch bamboo in one stroke" And thats what I want. That and it's mono-tempered and a little long for my tastes, 36", but I also know this isn't custom work, so I won't complain. I know that Hanwei blades can be found for less with a little looking, but this thing looks too good to be true and that makes me wary. Ok! I have to spend less than $700.00 so I've been surfing around and at current looking at the Hanwei Wind & Thunder But I can't decide, so I'm hoping that THE VOICE OF EXPERIENCE will give me some more info.Īny feedback will be grately appreciated, Please Help this Bushi Get a New Soul! ![]()
